The hotel and the story behind the name
Djingis Khan Hotel is a four-star hotel in the north of Lund. The proximity to Science Park Ideon, the university hospital and Lund University makes us a natural first choice for visiting researchers, course participants and visitors to companies and institutions, but of course everyone seeking accommodation is welcome.
The hotel is located in a quiet residential area, only a couple of minutes from the highway exit. On one side pure nature, Sankt Hans Hills with green hills and paths for walking and running – on the other the vital northeast parts of Lund with the Science park Ideon. The planned ESS research facility will also be close by.
Those who are visiting us a bit longer will appreciate our comfortable and well-furnished apartments, secluded but with access to the hotel services: gym, solarium, sauna, and above all – our breakfast buffet.
We are continually working with the safety of our guests – thus all staff is trained in fire prevention as well as in the use of the recently acquired defibrillator.
Djingis Khan?
Djingis Khan and his golden horde never wreaked havoc on Lund and probably did not confuse Samarkand with Eslöv. The name is instead inspired by the classic student play (Lundaspexet) Djingis Khan, performed at the Lund Carnival 1954.
The play is about Djingis Khan and his sons’ futile attempts to conquer Samarkand ("the Eslöv of Asia") and became immensely popular with its breathtaking puns and catchy music. It has ever since then been a standard on the repertoire.
Djingis Khan was translated to English for a visit of the EU Parliament in 1986, and has toured the US in this version. At the 50th anniversary year 2004 the original members performed a special version for the kids at preschool Djingis Khan in Lund.
